Early Life and Education

Tope Adebayo was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, on June 28, 1975. He was the top graduate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ado-Ekiti, where he also held the position of Students’ Union President. He completed his LLM at the University of Lagos, again achieving the highest distinction. In 2008, he received the Hoponu Wusu prize for the best graduating LLM student at the University of Lagos. Tope is a registered capital market consultant with the Securities and Exchange Commission and offers expert management advice for his firm.

Career

Tope Adebayo commenced his legal career at the esteemed commercial law firm Olaniwun Ajayi, specializing in litigation, receivership, arbitration, and project and corporate finance. He later moved to Afe Babalola & Co, where he continued to build his expertise in litigation and arbitration.

He has handled numerous high-profile cases in banking, finance, corporate, and commercial law in superior courts, including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Tope has represented and contested against multinational corporations such as Shell BP, Chevron, Mobil, and Pan Ocean Nigeria Ltd, especially in telecommunications disputes.

He was notably part of the legal team in the UBA v. BTL case at Afe Babalola, which resulted in the highest damages awarded against a bank for negligence in handling client transactions in recent history. Alongside his legal career, Tope has acted in several Nollywood films, including “Kinni Igbeyawo” (2020), “King of Thieves” (2022), and “Késárí the King” (2023).

Tope Adebayo is married to Bisola Adebayo (née Akanji), and they welcomed their baby on February 5, 2015. The couple celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on November 29, 2022. Tope is the younger brother of Femi Adebayo and the son of Adebayo Salami, also known as Oga Bello.
